It is not widely known that each sign has several possible associated gemstones. As well as being associated with zodiac signs, stones may be related to months of the year.
Gemini: May 22- June 21
The stones associated with Gemini are agate (especially moss agate or banded agate, the latter showing lines of light and dark, red and white), beryl, chrysolite, onyx and peridot. The planet associated with Gemini is Mercury.
Agate
Agates are types of chalcedony or chryptocrystalline quartz and are usually brown, dark red or yellow. Named after the river Achates in Sicily they are now found in India, Brazil and Germany. For centuries they have been thought to bring luck to those people who work with or on the land.
The agate was held in great esteem by ancient civilizations that thought it was representative of the third eye and spiritual love. Probably the connection with the third eye also leads it to be used for eye problems and headaches. Ground to a powder, the stone was often used to stop bleeding and soothe irritations and skin diseases.
There are many types of agate but all agates are said to bring about good fortune, good health, eloquence, wealth and long life. Reputed to have been used by athletes since ancient times to increase vitality, the agate no only increases energy levels but also self-confidence, as it banishes fear. It was believed to help with epilepsy. The possession of an agate was traditionally thought to bestow the gifts of eloquence, social grace and good fortune on the owner. These earthy stones help to keep the Gemini grounded and promote truth. To strengthen its power, the chrysoprase should also be worn.
Beryl
Beryl is usually green in color, but sometimes has yellow, pink, blue and white shades within it. Known to have been one of the first crystals used by ancient seers, beryl is said to help those lacking motivation move forward by improving willpower.
In the Middle Ages, beryl was though to cure laziness and banish fear and was linked with emotional difficulties. It was also said to help with asthma and kidney stones, as well as liver disease. In more recent times, the beryl has been used to threat throat problems and is a particularly good stone for meditation.
Chrysolite
Chrysolite is most commonly an olive green color but can also be brown or red. It gets it s name from the Greek chiastos, which means “marked with an x”. For this reason, it is sometimes called “the cross stone”, and was also known as “the golden stone” to the ancients.
It is said to exert its full power, chrysolite should be set in gold. Known to be very useful in cases of viral illnesses, it also used in cases of toxemia. In ancient times, chrysolite was thought to be cure for insomnia and protect against nightmares when worn at night, and when worn during the day, to dispel melancholy and improve creativity. In medieval times, it was believed to prevent madness.
Onyx
Onyx, a type of colored chalcedony, has long been associated with improving concentration and devotion and it is not surprising, therefore, to see many rosaries made from this stone. It is also said to help with stress and aid inner serenity. It is used to improve concentration, self-control and hearing difficulties.
Peridot
Peridot is often recommended for sleeplessness, digestive problems, reducing stress and helping with lethargy by stimulation the mind. It is also said to help with lung congestion and stomach ulcers.
Lucky and unlucky stones.
Many stones are considered to be lucky and since early times have been used as means of protection. For those people interested in astrology, having considered the stones mentioned for their signs, it is worth pointing out that some sources believe that some stones are to be avoided at all costs.
