Gemstones associated with the Signs of the Zodiac.
It is not widely known that each sign has several possible associated gemstones. As well as being associated with zodiac signs, stones may be related to months of the year.
Aquarius: January 21- February 19
Amethyst, chalcedony, aquamarine and turquoise are all associated with Aquarians. Aquarius is also connected with lepidolite, zircon and celestite. Saturn and Uranus rule Aquarians.
Amethyst
Amethyst Gemstone Tree Small - $30 Amethyst Gemstone Tree Large - $160Amethyst, together with rose quartz, is probably now one of the most popular gemstones.
Ancients thought it was a cure for drunkenness, probably because its name comes from a Greek word-implying sobriety, and those who wore it believed that they could drink as much as they wished without suffering any ill effects. The Romans often used Amethyst cups to help the drinker to remain sober. However, because of the darkness of the cups, the contents could be well –watered without anyone noticing and perhaps this is why they stayed sober! It is reputed to lose its brightness in the presence of poison and to pale if the wearer is ill.
Also associated with the month of February, the Amethyst gives serenity and steadfastness and has long been associated with St. Valentine, bringing happiness in love and good luck. Often used in religious circles both in rings and rosaries, an Amethyst wrapped in thin silk and held over the temples is said to soothe nervous headaches. Tradition suggest that the stone should, however, first be warmed either by sun’s rays or the warmth of a natural fire.
Considered to be a spiritual stone, the Amethyst has long had the reputation of being able to increase the owner’s ability to develop spirituality, purify and heal, and is very commonly used by healers tot induce calm and alleviate stress and loneliness. Used in meditation, for guidance and help, the Amethyst will help bring clear thoughts and calm the mind as well as help with headaches.
A very powerful stone, the Amethyst provides a link between the higher and lower states of consciousness.
During the Middle Ages the Amethyst was quite rare and was highly prized and it is still used in the rings of Roman Catholic bishops.
Amethyst has been connected with Sagittarius since the beginnings of modern astrology.

Chalcedony, named after the Greek city of Chalcedon, is a bluish-gray stone seldom used but said to be useful in cases of bad temper or unease, bringing about feeling of peace and serenity. Chalcedony is a gemstone that should have many applications in our modern world.

Aquamarine is stone of happiness in marriage and well being, bringing clarity of mind and purpose to its wearer.
Aquamarine is also reputed to help with glandular problems disorders of the throat, stomach and eyes and fluid-retention. Often used in meditation, Aquamarine from beryl family is thought to protect the wearer from accidents, especially when traveling by sea.

Should your Turquoise start to pale, don’t worry – simply leave it off for a few weeks and it should return to its normal brilliance.

Lepidolite is very unusual stone, has high lithium content and is very helpful in balancing out the compulsive behavior for which Aquarians are notorious. Also useful as an aid to physic development, the Lepidolite will help to inspire, illuminate and develop the link between the conscious lower mind and the higher mind.

Celestite
Celestite is a relaxing stone, helping its owner to unwind from even the most stressful circumstances, and aiding and accelerating spiritual growth and creative expression. Said to impart clear speech and clarity of thought, Celestite should, in truth, be far more popular in this modern age.

Zircon is a multi-colored stone helping to calm emotions and protect against depression. Zircons ability to help raise self-esteem and gain spiritual insight makes it another true New Age stone.
